About us

EduGems story began when two Finnish mums - Linda and Marianne - with an exceptional passion for and experience of education - found each other. EduGems’ team has kept growing and already includes several talented and enthusiastic members.

Our mission is to inspire and help teachers around the world in integrating Education for Sustainable Development into all areas of education. The emphasis is on empowering teachers and schools to be ambassadors for the change - by coaching them to plan their own ESD practices - only then they will own their own change and innovate a direction towards the better!
FINLAND

Linda Suomela-Hemangkorn, Customer Success Manager, Founder

Linda, obsessed by the Lean Methodology is always looking for ways for continuous improvement and chances for self-development. This results in coming up with new ways to serve customers better, more efficiently and sustainably. Each customer's success is important and thus a personal matter to her. 
She overlooks EduGems’ e-learning platform, website and social media accounts. Her passion for innovation and creativity is visible in EduGems product development and service design.

Marianne Juntunen, Pedagogical Director, Founder

Dr. in Chemistry Education, M. Sc. in Chemistry and Mathematics education, M.Sc. in Technical microbiology, and was awarded for being the most innovative science teacher in Finland in 2016. Marianne is most happy when planning new and interacting about ESD issues with people around EduGems. Marianne’s key talent is her experience and passion of being a teacher, and documented credibility of ESD from Finland.

Eva Roos, Event and Public Relations Manager

Eva knows and has experience of the education policy practice of Finland from the local to the national level. Eva is driven by being able to make a difference & do good, inspire through words, and always learn new. She enjoys being the link and bridge between people, organizations, companies and projects. She is the happy flow behind texts, webinars, workshops and events.

NEPAL

Parshuram S. Niraula, International Management and Training director

He has been involved in numerous EE/ESD projects through his work at the Teacher Training Academy Smart Minds Nepal. He is also the Founder and Chairman of the Centre for Environment Education Nepal (CEEN).  
Parshuram helps with course localization, virtual and direct F2F sessions in Nepal/India/Cambodia as well as explores new partnerships and extensions in his area. Parshuram is in an essential role in EduGems product development and moderates live webinars.

CHILE

Karla Soto

Karla is Interested in working with individual teachers to discover ESD and holistic approach to Science Education. As a scientist (kind of) she likes to work with numbers and figures. She manages the data that comes from the participants and helps to come up with new ideas/ways to make the process more efficient. On the other hand, as a former Edugems’ student Karla has the perspective of a customer, so she makes sure to pay attention to the details in the content, so it looks clear and coherent with the goals of the course. In the near future she would like to be a bridge between Edugems and Academia, as a student at the University of Eastern Finland.

Dr. Poornima V, Country Representative of EduGems in India

The Director of Vismaya Centre for Education and Research Dr. Poornima V assists and collaborates closely with EduGems on joint programs offered to teachers in India. The main objective of Vismaya Centre for Education and Research is to provide the effective learning platform for students of all age groups through innovative and creative pedagogical practices. The office is located at Arehalli, Bengaluru in India.

Our story

EduGems Finland was founded in early 2019 as a response to the huge interest in Finnish educational travel programs. Finland is known for its high education standard. EduGems offers teachers and schools education and training programs and lesson plans that are based on Education for Sustainable Development and future skills pedagogy.

Before Covid-19, EduGems Finland’s core products were education camp programs for 10-17 year olds, teacher trainings and workshops in Finland. The research-based programs combined STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) with Sustainable Development and 21st century skills. Movement and nature was a natural part of the programs and cooperation was carried out with camp centers around Finland. The core themes of the education programs all revolve around sustainable development with programs such as Circular Solutions, Eco-Design, Fresh Water and Megatrends. Students would get to experience the Finnish way of learning through student-centered project based, phenomenal approaches.

As a response to Covid-19 and with all travel programs being cancelled, EduGems Finland created an e-learning platform to still be able to reach out to teachers and schools directly. 

So here YOU are today, joining us from all parts of the world! 

The online teacher trainings put emphasis on the urgent need to integrate Education for Sustainable Development into all areas of education. There is a  global lack of lessons where students are empowered to use their capacity to understand wicked, systemic global challenges. EduGems Finland’s trainings give teachers concrete tools and ideas for how to use student-centered project-based, phenomenal approaches.

Curriculum

EduGems Curriculum is designed by STEM specialist Dr. Marianne Juntunen from Finland.

The Curriculum is based on her extensive research in Education for Sustainable Development in Science. The concepts of the dissertation of Dr. Juntunen “Holistic and inquiry-based education for sustainable development in chemistry” resulted in changes in the National core curriculum in Finland - top ranked education system in the world.

Certifications

🏆 EduGems' programs are certified by Education Alliance Finland. 🇫🇮. The Finnish Educational Quality Certificate.

Education Alliance Finland's Quality Evaluation Method is an academically sound approach to evaluating a product’s pedagogical design from the viewpoint of educational psychology.
The method has been developed with university researchers and all evaluators are carefully selected Finnish teachers with a master's degree in education.
