"L4E - Love 4 Earth" - Ambassadors for a proper E-waste management

Colegio Stratford school in Mexico is in constant evolution, it is a small community, therefore it allows us a more personal and humanised contact, we promote technological innovation with social impact, the socio-economic relationship with the community, we believe our key.
We have curious and generous teachers with their environment.

Looking ahead!

With more than 900,000 tons of electronic waste being generated per year in Mexico, L4E Team's goal is to promote a responsible handling of electronic equipment. They know that if this type of waste is not managed properly, it is pollution for the environment.

That's why they are working on "E-WASTE": a project that seeks to minimise electronic waste pollution through collaboration between the educational sector and the private sector.

This project was born as a result of the training that EduGems has provided to our School - Team L4E

What are the changes and actions needed in Mexico

"I´m in Mexico, and education here compared to Finland is very different, first of all because of the level of development in the country, education is very polarised and it is only for a few, there is a great difference between schools private and public, we do not receive the support that we should, the number of students per classroom is not adequate for a good learning, most of the teachers do not have the necessary tools to facilitate knowledge, learning methods continue to be based on repetition, memorisation, etc." - Lizeth Barrales

"Mexico has a great task when it comes to talking about education and its greatest challenge lies in changing the way people think. We want more and better educational practices, we need to speed up the pace of professional preparation. Just wake up, be open to new ways of teaching and learning, nothing is as it was and nothing will be as it is now. We need to unlearn everything we know about pedagogy to relearn and transform our professional teaching practice and with it our students to prepare the new generations with a complete and radical vision of life, the planet and our responsibility to it". - Linda Pichardo

What do the school's teachers say?

"Having the opportunity to share experiences that have allowed me to develop different tools that help me achieve my goals every day. To be able to influence the lives of young people in this way and help them to know that they can achieve what they set out to do and aspire to better living conditions."

Carlos Cabrera

"I consider it very important for these generations to identify the economic balance that can occur with the knowledge and application of this education. Raise awareness of the need to change the habits we have, smarter consumption, reuse, circular economy, make the impact visible now and in the future."

Marcos Ledesma

"We have the power in our classrooms, because if we start with these generations also they're gonna continue with the same way in the next generations. It's a little difficult to start only with the students, it has to be a specific program started by the governments and also the industries."

Paulina García

Being able to interrelate the topics seen in different classes is a great opportunity to build meaningful learning. In this way, students can relate and make sense of their learning. Being able to carry out these types of activities enriches the tools and abilities of the students and they realise that nothing is isolated and that everything is really related.

Let's see the projects in action!

We have reconsidered the importance of our teaching work in environmental matters as well as its fickle transversality with others. We believe that globalisation requires a new emphasis on "Sustainable Education". An education closely linked to love for the land, "our home" where we agree with EduGems in highlighting the importance of learning through a scientific approach as well as the promotion of positive pedagogy where, as teachers, we collaborate reaping successes for the benefit of the sustainability.

We consider it essential that this information should be known to as many educators as possible. The way of teaching in Finland has inspired us because in the region where we live (Mexico) education is far from this model.

At EduGems we are excited about this practical and effective idea. We can’t wait to read how this project develops at your school!
