"Eco-cops"- Nurture Nature for Future!

Takshashila Education Foundation is located in Eastern Nepal in the District of Jhapa, Birtamod, Nepal. Since its inception from 2007, Takshashila carries on the legacy of Sunshine School. The school runs classes from grade 1-7 and will expand to secondary and higher secondary by 2025.
It has a long heritage of academic excellence and is committed to unfolding the true potential of every child. Our vision is to create a 1-12 school that is highly regarded for its progressive academic excellence, and for its positive contribution in serving and improving the community in which it operates.

Looking ahead!

Even though sustainable development has been taught in environmental science as a subject in Takshashila Education Foundation, the ESD Global Training has inspired a group of teachers to integrate ESD into their teaching practices, no matter what specific subject they teach to students.
Moreover, they have also acquired knowledge about phenomenon-based learning which gives a holistic and inquiry based education in view of the context.

With all these new insights, the team Eco-cops planned an activity with the following goal: to clean the field outside the school premises which has become a dumping site for local peoples in the community, and create a clean surrounding for everyone to hang-out.

“The exciting part is it will create an awareness to the people who are dumping on the site and also will teach everyone the importance of collaboration and teamwork in solving real life problems.” -says Eco-cops team.

What are the changes and actions needed?

“In Nepal, the traditional method of teaching and learning is still prevalent in many regions. Teachers need to be trained with the current trends and best practices used globally.

The task that we do in the classroom has to go down to our community level. So, asking the students to have a walk around their community and giving them an inventory list and letting them explore what is there in the community and what is lacking, and then brainstorming the problems with them that they saw and finding out ways to resolve them in the community.” -Raju Baral.
