Superpowers Through ESD and Positive Pedagogy

In Moldova, Science, Chemistry and Biology subjects teachers were invited to cooperate. They showed in their schools education that really matters for the future.

Parents were impressed by the motivation of their kids searching and exploring  information about the materials, how they are used and what the reason is for the raw materials."

Life Long Learning!

Inspired by the information presented in the ESD Teacher Training, this group of teachers decided that it was time to use their professional capacities to understand the concepts of positive pedagogy and to implement it in the classrooms. Their goal is clear: Implementing Positive Interaction in order to support human growth and development.

“We consider that being informed, instructed and confident in what to do and how to act is a superpower indeed. Studying these modules we opened the doors of such concepts as STEAM, ESD, Positive pedagogy, Student-centered and teacher-centered learning. These concepts which are only mentioned but not studied and implemented in our community” says LLL Disciples team.

What are the changes and actions needed?

"Curriculum in the Republic of Moldova is changing. The word sustainability has only just started to be understood and implemented in pedagogical communities. The STEAM approach takes wings. However, we still need the necessary resources to develop the skills of the 21st century. Adapting to the challenges of education in the 21st century is difficult, teaching strategies have a major impact but do not always meet the needs of the 21st century student. The pedagogy is more theorized, that's why we need a lot of practice. I consider that sharing experiences between different communities, especially the experience of EduGems Finland community, is very beneficial and fruitful for us. Practice teaches us how to react, predict results and know how to take further action."

"I consider that all the aspects of environmental problems should be integrated in any subject in the framework of the curriculum. As for teaching, I consider that Project-based learning would be a great strategy to introduce the environmental problems and planetary boundaries. Through projects pupils will explore the problem then they together with the teacher will find a solution. I will focus more on the transversal competences. I will take the role of a push motivator and try to deliver more interactive lessons. Thank you so much. I have discovered crucial facts about education!"

Natalia Ursu

"The 21st-century teacher needs to know how to provide technologically supported learning opportunities for students and know how technology can support student learning. Also, the teacher should organize and implement learning situations. Still I need to learn about sustainability but a thing is clear, I know the meaning and the use of sustainability. Thank you."

Elena Ungureanu

"Being a teacher is a very responsible task. Personal and professional development is lifelong. All the teachers should remember the fact that they may change lives."

Corina Ceban

Let's see the projects in action!

"This training is the start up of a great change in our community. Now, we are aware of such phenomena as motivation with positive pedagogy, application of sustainable development issues and supporting the learning of 21st century and action competence skills.

We learned and clarified many educational concepts such as Holistic and Inquiry-based Education for Sustainable Development, we understood that very simple actions can bring big impact on both students and teachers.

The material provided in this module really raises my curiosity and motivation to accept all the educational challenges. The changes are going to be done despite the circumstances . So, our duty is to direct the changes in the educational favour."
"Our team is in the process of implementing the STEAM activities provided in the course. We have had a great experience providing the first and the second lesson. The age of the pupils and the forms we have chosen are: 3rd form ( age 9-10), 5-th form ( age 11-12) 7th form ( age 14-15). At the lessons, Science, Chemistry and Biology subjects teachers were  invited to cooperate.

We made a real boom in our school showing another aspect of education, education that really matters for our future. Parents are impressed by the motivation of their kids searching and exploring  information about the materials, how they are used and what the reason is for the raw materials."

Change Is Possible Only Through Education for Sustainable Development

Due to the challenges of the 21st century we do changes, we do the impossible to be possible, with difficulties but we reach results. We have had a major impact on our community due to the ESD course. We have learned that sustainability is actually continuous involvement. We had a unique experience together. We demonstrated through Facebook posts and meetings that we are citizens who get involved regardless of obstacles, but we are even more proud that we are graduates of this wonderful course. We have not yet assimilated everything, but we can certainly say that we know how to start making a change.
We are more confident, more trustworthy and firmly convinced that we are on the right way of action.
